My hometown is going to make a lot of news that may push me to the back page. I have a really, really bad feeling that this case is more likely to hurt a lot of people than it is to lead us to any clarity.

I know the lawyer who is bringing this case. He and I do not know each other well, but he and hos two brothers are very prominent lawyerin’ siblings here. They have been on phone books and billboards for years, and the oldest brother became a judge a few years back. I have a very bad feeling about this and would be happier if my town didn't have to be this battleground.

That does sound like quite a mess. The non-profit I work for runs a family shelter in our county, and by this time next month we should know if we are taking over a homeless facility in Solano County. This situation gives us nightmares....

I can’t think of a better place for this lawsuit to be than in California. The majority want transgenders to have equal rights. If they denied this individual access to the shelter, they would of been sued too.

Really all that’s impo rtant is they were assaulted. Could of just as easily been a biol ogical female that did it. A l arg e percentage of homeless people have mental problems. Some of those m ental problems are sexual in nature. I wasn’t aware shelters are to provide top level security for each pers on . It’s a crowded place, so everyone (including other residents) let it happen IMO.

I’ll be the first to say that transgender people aren’t perfect. That narrative needs to end as it simply doesn’t help. We’re just like everyone else and unfortunately, sometimes just as capable at being awful as everyone else.

I know I’m not and certainly there is no forgetting that drug dealer chick (also trans) who brought me to suicide.

That said, it’s clear that the most of us are people just trying to enjoy life and just trying to get by. Whenever a trans person is caught doing something bad, we all get punished for it . That instance then becomes “proof” that we’re the rapists, murderers, and criminals they say we are, even if the sample size is literally just one .

It sounds like this singular case about a singular potentially bad trans person could be used to decide some parts of my future, and that scares the heck out of me.

110% correct.

There is literally no reason to politicize this as “maybe trans people shouldn’t be allowed in this area” but that’s exactly what will happen depending on how this goes. A single bad person does not make all of us bad. I first started saying that four years ago and I will say it until I die if I have to.

This pisses me off on so many levels. Why is it even a key point that the harasser is trans? Guess what. Shitty people exist in all gender identities. Are they trying to imply that it only happened because a trans person was allowed in contact with the women? That this wouldn’t have happened with a cis employee? Bet this wouldn’t be such a large spectacle if the harasser was cis. The prosecuters are just playing up the trans part to take advantage of public ignorance and fear to strengthen their case. All this is going to do is villify trans folk in the public eye. This case will set precedent that hurts all trans people by making it ok for the general populace to assume that they’re degenerates and perverts.
